Haiti - Environment : Reforestation campaign in Kamak commune Camp-Perrin

As part of the watershed restoration activities and the protection of water sources in the locality of Kamak 2nd municipal section of Marceline, (municipality of Camp-Perrin, South Dept.), a reforestation campaign in this locality, launched by the Departmental Directorate of the South of the Ministry of the Environment with the participation of the town hall of Camp Perrin and the Board of Directors of the Communal Section (CASEC) of the area, is in progress.

Jean-Marc Chérisier the Departmental Director of the South of the environment is convinced that the planting of more than 100,000 seedlings represents a guarantee for the sustainability of water in the area. He took the opportunity to announce the establishment of a nursery in the locality of Karnak in collaboration with the authorities and the local population.

Apart from the impassability of the roads in the locality, the problem of water remains a priority of priorities according to Marie Carla Nicolas. deputy mayor of the municipality of Camp-Perrin. According to her, the earthquake of August 14, 2021 damaged the sources and catchments of this locality, access to water was until now impossible, but with the intervention of the Ministry and the commitment of the population, the future looks better.

For Pierre Oxene, Councilor of Administration of the Communal Section, this reforestation campaign marks the end of the environmental decadence of Kamak. With this activity, the locality will recover its vegetation cover and will trace the future of the locality.

A monitoring committee has been set up by the town hall of Camp-Perrin to ensure the safety of the intervention area and the water collection points for the well-being of the Camper population.
