Haiti - Insecurity : Drivers block the road to Carrefour to protest against gang racketeering

On Monday, public transport drivers blocked the road of Carrefour to protest against the gangs who hold drivers and passengers to ransom them all day long on the road to Martissant without any guarantee of not being attacked afterwards, by other bandits...

Drivers placed buses across the road to paralyze traffic, and threatened to expand the movement and block other routes if authorities did not quickly restore security in the area.

Some exacerbated demonstrators threw stones at vehicles that tried to pass despite everything, a situation that forced many students from Gressier, Merger and Léogâne to turn back.

At the end of the morning the demonstrators were still present and asked the National Police of Haiti to put out of harm's way the bandits of Martissant, Village de Dieu and Fontamara claiming to have had enough of working to pay ransoms to these criminals...
