Sunday, October 9, 2022, Luis Abinader the President of the Dominican Republic, announced the purchase of a series of military-class vehicles and aircraft "We are making a very important purchase in different areas, both for the Air Force and the Army, to strengthen our capabilities to defend our country."

He explained that this important government investment, (the largest acquisition of this type of equipment by a Dominican government since 1961) includes the purchase of "6 helicopters and 10 planes" which will be used for tactical operations, border surveillance, search and rescue, transport of goods, emergency evacuation among others...

He also indicated that they had purchased 21 state-of-the-art latest generation armored transport vehicles, (manufactured by the Spanish firm URO VESA), specifying that these vehicles can transport 9 men and two crew members and are equipped with automatic weapons for self-defense and for the defense of the border.

To this must be added four anti-riot trucks, which will be put into service at each official border entry point into Dominican territory.

In addition, Abinader announced a salary increase of RD 3,500 pesos to members of the national army serving in the border area of the country.

Concluding "We will do everything necessary to take care of our territory and so that the world knows that the solution to the problem of Haiti is the collective work of the international community and not only of the Dominican Republic."
