Haiti - Health : The Dominicans strengthen the health surveillance of Haitians in Dajabón

The Dominican Ministry of Public Health indicated that it had reinforced epidemiological measures at the Dajabón border post, to prevent the spread of cholera with the return of Haitians residing in the country who traveled to Haiti to spend the Christmas holidays and New Years.

Francisco García Espinal, Provincial Director of the Ministry of Public Health, explained that a team from the Ministry remains stationed on the border line, placing disinfectants in the hands of Haitians entering the country from Haiti.

He said the measures implemented are preventive actions to prevent the spread of cholera. He affirmed that in Dajabón, they maintain an epidemiological surveillance after the warning of the international organizations concerning the epidemic of the disease which affects Haiti.

"So far, there are no registered cases of the disease that have been exported by the northern strip of the Dominican-Haitian border," said García Espinal, while less than 20 cases of imported cholera have been registered throughout the Dominican territory and no deaths. In Haiti 450 people have already died of cholera and suspected cases number in the tens of thousands https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38549-haiti-cholera-daily-bulletin-86.html
