Haiti - Environment : Winners of the 1st Edition of the Eco-Genius Contest

The Ministry of the Environment (MdE), through the departmental directorates South, Nippes, Grand'Anse and the Directorate of Education Relative to the Environment, has just completed the final phase of the first edition of the Eco-Genius contest , launched on August 12, 2022 by James Cadet, the Minister of the Environment, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37508-haiti-environment-launch-of-the-eco-genius-competition-in-4-departments-registrations-open.html with the support of the National Education Fund (FNE) and UNESCO.

It was the city of Les Cayes that hosted the grand final of the competition on March 10, 2023. The six finalist teams who won at the departmental level, with two teams per department, competed for first place.

Awards :

1st:

The Nippes Innovative Youth Team

Price: A laptop and 150,000 Gourdes

2nd:

The Southern Shining Star Team

Price: A laptop and 100,000 gourdes

3rd:

The Eco-activist team of Grand'Anse takes 3rd place with

Price: A laptop and 75,000 thousand gourdes

4th:

The Nippes Etoile Brillante team

Price: A laptop and 75,000 thousand gourdes

5th:

The Roots of the South team

Price: A laptop and 50,000 thousand gourdes

All the winners received their prizes during a ceremony in the presence of Rony Horat, head of the environmental education department, Ms Musette Thomas, Director of human resources of the MoE, Ms Sherline Jeune of the focal point of the Unesco, the three departmental directors Brutus Maguet (Nippes), ean Marc Chérisier (Sud) and Kelly Marcia (Grand'Anse) and supporters.

It should be remembered that this competition aimed, among other things, to raise awareness, make young people aged 15 to 25 think and raise their awareness of current environmental, climate and energy problems with a view to bringing them to eco-citizenship.
