Haiti - Environment : Towards a new generation of eco-citizens

The Ministry of the Environment through its West Departmental Directorate launched the past week in Laboule 10, in partnership with the ecological organization "Association of Visionaries for Socio-Economic Development" (AVIDSE) and residents of the zone, a summer camp around the theme "Involvement of young people and children in the dynamics of environmental protection."

The objective of this activity is to create eco-citizens through environmental education through the awareness of adolescents and children in order to help the Community adapt to climate change through concrete actions. In addition, the activity aims to recover, eliminate and reduce at source, the amount of waste produced by households, public markets and others....

Ulrick Bain, the West Departmental Director of the Ministry, launched this activity in the presence of the President of AVISE, Jeamissaint JEAN, personalities from Laboule 10 and more than 200 teenagers from the area. In his opening remarks, he said he believed that the involvement of young people and children in the protection of the environment is a major asset for having a new generation of eco-citizens in Haiti.

More than two hundred young people from the area showed their great interest in this activity, where they will learn how to carry out soil conservation work, the management and recycling of plastic waste, composting, food gardens, production of medicinal plants, how to give first aid in an emergency situation. A sense of civic-mindedness and patriotism will also be instilled in them.
