Let's remember that Guy Philippe, the former elected Senator of Grand'Anse, former commander of the Haitian National Police (PNH) who led the rebellion in 2004 which overthrew President Jean Bertrand, was repatriated Thursday, November 30 2023 in the morning in Port-au-Prince by the United States, after serving a 7-year prison sentence https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41106-haiti-flash-former-senator-elect-guy-philippe-returns-to-the-country.html Sentenced to 9 years in prison, he pleaded guilty to avoid life in prison (following an agreement with the prosecutor) while continuing to proclaim his innocence. He was arrested upon his arrival by the Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ) and taken into custody for questioning.

After two days of in-depth interrogation concerning the attack on the Les Cayes police station in 2016 in which his name had been mentioned and which had been the subject of an arrest warrant at the time, the DCPJ investigators satisfied (it seems) decided on Saturday, December 2nd in the morning, to give full and complete freedom to Guy Philippe who is now free to move and who hastened to return to Pestel (Dept. Grand'Anse) his city native where he was received triumphantly.

It remains to be seen what Guy Philippe will do, as he aspires to political action and who would even consider being a candidate in the next Presidential election.

If most people think that it is impossible based on his conviction and the Constitution, on the judicial level opinions are divided citing complex technical aspects. Thus the criminal record of a Haitian would be primarily territorial and would not take into account convictions in other countries. If it turns out that he has no convictions in Haiti his criminal record would then be clean and nothing would stand in the way of his candidacy... But for the moment these are only speculations and when the time comes one will know probably more...
