Haiti - Literature : The Goncourt 2011 not for Haiti this year

The Goncourt Academy has published this Wednesday, November 2, 2011, the winner of the prestigious Prix Goncourt, this is "L'Art français de la guerre" published by Gallimard, of Alexis Jenni, in this book he makes an ambitious fresco. He goes back in a history full of blood and fighting between the Indochina and Algeria. A reflection on the legacy of colonial conflicts, the intergenerational transmission and the concept of national identity.

Although in the running for the final of Goncourt 2011, Lyonel Trouillot with "La belle amour humaine", (Actes Sud) was not selected. Lyonel Trouillot, depicts in "La belle amour humaine" a Haitian and a foreign woman which the two voices, staggered, merge at the end of the novel. "This world produces malaise, that's what I'm talking in this book made of fragments of reality, especially on the predators who run Haiti and which leave nothing to the other" declares the author.

In an interview on France Info few hours before the award of the Prix Goncourt, Lyonel Trouillot said "I feel calm, if it comes [the Goncourt] is a good thing not only for me but for Haiti, because I'm Haitian, is a country that is so poorly known, it could draw attention on Haiti for other reasons..."

Born in Port-au-Prince in 1956, where he still lives, Lyonel Trouillot left Haïti a few time to take refuge in the United States to escape the repression under Jean-Claude Duvalier in early 1980... but he never left the island forever. Lyonel Trouillot, fascinated by the literature from an early age, collaborated in various newspapers and magazines of Haiti and of the Diaspora in which he has published numerous poems and critical essays, he also wrote some texts of songs performed by Tambou Libète, Manno Charlemagne, Toto Bissainthe, Jean Coulanges and Atis Endepandan.
