Haiti - Insecurity : Latest attacks, more than 3,000 people have fled their homes

Recent armed attacks in the heart of the capital have pushed more than 3,314 people to flee their homes, seeking refuge with host families or in overcrowded accommodation sites.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM Haiti) collected this data following armed attacks in the neighborhoods of Pernier and its surroundings in the commune of Pétion Ville, in the district of Drouillard in the commune of Cité Soleil and the district of Wharf de la Saline in that of Port-au-Prince. The attacks in Pernier and Drouillard began on January 30, 2024 and at Wharf de la Saline on January 27.

At the time of writing this report, some attacks were still ongoing and as a result, updates will be published as movements evolve. A total of 3,314 people have already been displaced following these attacks. The majority of displaced populations (60%) took refuge with host families and 1,331 people in 4 sites including 3 existing sites before these incidents and 1 new site created following them.

Pétion-ville:

638 People displaced into host families; 700 people displaced to sites; Total displaced people: 1,338;

Port-au-Prince:

534 Displaced people in host families; 561 People displaced to sites; Total displaced people: 1,095;

Delmas:

583 Displaced people in host families; 10 People displaced to sites; Total displaced people: 593;

Cité Soleil:

127 People displaced into host families; 0 People displaced to sites; Total displaced people: 127;

Croix-des-Bouquets:

83 People displaced by host families; 0 People displaced to sites; Total displaced people: 83;

Tabarre:

18 People displaced by host families; 60 people displaced to sites; Total displaced people: 78.

Displacements following the attacks in Pernier and its surroundings (Commune of Pétion Ville):

373 displaced households;

1,398 individuals displaced.

Displacements following the attacks in Whraf de la Saline (Commune of Port-au-Prince):

276 displaced households;

161 displaced households;
