Haiti - Culture : Haiti the Way of Freedom

Haiti the Way of Freedom (Haïti le Chemin de la Liberté), a film by Arnold Antonin will be screened on the occasion of the first edition of "Afro Caraïbes Films, Festival de Paris 2011", taking place from November 3 to 6.

Haiti the Way of Freedom, retraces the struggle of the Haitian people for their freedom since the arrival of Christopher Columbus to Jean-Claude Duvalier. Historical figures like Rodophe Moïse, Ulrick Jolly, Justin Castera, all deceased since, are calling for unity for the reconstruction of the country.

First Haitian feature film (92 minutes / 1974), Arab Critics Award (Festival de la Francophonie, Geneva, Switzerland), Special Jury Prize at the 1st festival of the new Latin American cinema, the Grand Prix Paul Robesson Diaspora - Fespaco 2011, winner of the Afro-Caribbean Paris Awards 2011. This film will be screened this Saturday, November 5th at 7h30pm at the Auditorium Jean Dame, 17, rue Léopold Bellan 75002 Paris.

The documentary short film (52 minutes / Haiti 2010), Tribute to Jacqueline and Lucien Lemoine of Maksaens Denis and Fred Koening will be presented Friday, November 4th, 2010 at 6pm at the Auditorium Jean Dame. Taking advantage of the tour of the play The Tragedy of King Christophe, directed by Jean-Marie Serreau Jacqueline and Lucien Lemoine fled the Duvalier dictatorship and came to live in Dakar in 1966, under the invitation of President Leopold Sedar Senghor, on the occasion of World Festival of Negro Arts.

"Afro Caraïbes Films, Festival de Paris 2011" aims to promote and highlight the cinematographic and audiovisual productions of the Africa and Caribbean culture in direction of professionals : film distributors, TV broadcasters, and allow associative networks to educate the moviegoers and the potential audience of these films to give them a high profile and promote their rightful place in the landscape of cinema in France.
