Haiti - Insecurity : Spain has everything planned to evacuate its nationals from Haiti if necessary

José Manuel Albares, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, assured this week that Spain had "planned everything" for "several days" to evacuate its nationals who are in Haiti "if necessary".

"Given the deterioration of the situation, for several days we have planned everything for an evacuation of the small Spanish community, and of the Spanish Embassy, if necessary," declared Albares at the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the European Union in Brussels.

However, Albares stressed that "at the moment, despite the difficulties of the situation" the evacuation is not necessary "But we are prepared for any scenario," he clarified.

He recalled that Spain has already announced a contribution of 3 million euros for Haiti "as part of the deployment of a multinational force" adding "Of course, we will also participate in this multinational force."
