Haiti - Politic : The USA will submit a resolution supporting Haiti to the next UN Assembly

Thursday, June 20, 2024 during a press conference convened by the Department of State, the United States Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Francisco Mora, raised the possibility of adopting a resolution to continue to support Haiti, particularly in the monetary area, during the next UN General Assembly which will be held from June 26 to 28 in Asunción, Paraguay.

The resolution indicates that the continent must take "urgent measures" to restore security, strengthen humanitarian aid and defend human rights and democracy in Haiti.

"It is very likely that the General Assembly will adopt a resolution to continue supporting Haiti, particularly on the issue not only of security, but also financial and monetary," Mora said.

During a meeting of the Permanent Council in Washington, Thomas Hastings, number 2 of the American mission to the OAS, clarified that this initiative, the text of which is still being negotiated with the member states, underlines the importance of have an "inclusive dialogue" between all Haitians to improve the political future of the country.

Furthermore, the text underlines the "critical need" to offer Haiti technical assistance to strengthen its institutional capacity so that it can face the criminal gangs which have plunged the country into chaos.
