Haiti - Politic : Members of the CPT discussed with Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Brian Nichols

Monday July 22, 2024, Edgard Leblanc Fils, President of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) accompanied by Advisors: Fritz Alphonse Jean, Frinel Joseph, Smith Augustin, Régine Abraham and Emmanuel Vertilaire welcomed at the Welcome Villa, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Ambassador of the United States of America to the United Nations and Brian A. Nichols Deputy Undersecretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, to discuss in particular the Multinational Mission to Support the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

The discussions lasted approximately 30 minutes. After an official photo session, no press release was issued. However, Linda Thomas-Greenfield said she was satisfied : "I was pleased to meet with Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council (CPT). Our commitment to Haiti includes supporting governance reforms, reducing crime, and protecting human rights. We appreciate the CPT’s ongoing efforts towards transparency and democratic elections," wrote the American diplomat on her "X" account.

According to Nate Evans Spokesperson for the US Mission to the United Nations Thomas-Greenfield highlighted the international community's support for the CPT as the executive authority in Haiti.

She thanked the CPT for its steadfast work to nominate interim Prime Minister Conille and the new Cabinet of Ministers, as well for its commitment to swiftly appoint a credible and inclusive Provisional Electoral Council.

All agreed upon the significance of making progress toward preparing the country for free and fair elections, in addition to addressing pressing humanitarian, economic, and security challenges.
