Haiti - Security : Relief of members of the Bahamas vanguard in Haiti

The Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the rotation of its advance team in Haiti, the vanguard of a 150-man contingent, confirmed in August 2024 by Bahamas Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43052-icihaiti-bahamas-rbdf-troops-in-pre-deployment-phase-for-haiti.html

The aircraft carrying the new officers of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) took off from Nassau, Bahamas, on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, and arrived in Port-au-Prince shortly thereafter. The team of six officers deployed on October 18, 2024 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43446-haiti-flash-a-team-of-bahamian-soldiers-has-arrived-in-haiti.html was relieved of duty and returned to the Bahamas following the arrival of the new officers who joined the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS), alongside several countries in the region.

The members of the RBDF were welcomed by the Commander of the security mission, Godfrey Otunge; the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Bahamas in Haiti, Commander Julian Smith; and the Deputy Force Commander, Colonel Eldon Morgan.

The Bahamas indicated that it remains committed to supporting the Mission in Haiti, thereby contributing to the overall security of the Haitian people and the Caribbean region. This advance team is part of a contingent of 150 troops promised and confirmed in August 2024 by Bahamian Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43052-icihaiti-bahamas-rbdf-troops-in-pre-deployment-phase-for-haiti.html , but which has still not been deployed for unknown reasons, but probably due to a lack of funding for equipment...
