Haiti - Politic : Haitian Chancellor received by the President of Taiwan (Republic of China)

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was visiting Taiwan from July 7 to 11, met with Lai Ching-te, President of Taiwan (Republic of China). Lai Ching-te reiterated that this visit demonstrates the importance of the friendship between the two countries, which will celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations next year.

President Lai Ching-te stated : "Cooperation between the two sides has borne fruit in important areas such as educational cooperation and infrastructure. In recent years, Haiti has faced challenges such as food supply and medical care. Taiwan will continue to collaborate with Haiti through various cooperative projects to improve medical and health care, strengthen food security, and promote the development of people's livelihoods."

He also took this opportunity to thank the Haitian government for its long-standing support for Taiwan on the international stage.

Chancellor Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste emphasized that his visit to Taiwan went beyond diplomatic courtesy and reflected the fact that Haiti, the first independent country with a Black population, has built a strong and friendly relationship with Taiwan, a symbol of tenacious resistance and an important contributor to peace and innovation.

With the world currently facing great challenges, and Haiti going through a particularly difficult period, Taiwan and Haiti need to strengthen their solidarity and mutual assistance, he emphasized.

Furthermore, the Chancellor indicated that his interactions with many people during his visit to Taiwan had allowed him to understand that the two sides of the strait are ready to open a new chapter in their relations, which will demonstrate mutual trust and the value both peoples place on their common defense. He added that Haiti would be willing to collaborate with Taiwan to create a model of friendly, sustainable, and sincere development.
