Haiti - Jamaica : Seizure of 1,360 kg of marijuana, 2 Haitians arrested

On Friday, July 25, 2025, two Haitian nationals were formally charged following a major drug bust in Toms River, St. Andrews, Jamaica, which resulted in the seizure of more than 1,360 kg of marijuana, valued at approximately $9.3 million.

The defendants were identified as Shelande Dorelien, 27, a marijuana dealer in Haiti, and Wisler Laveis, 25, from Les Cayes. According to police, the two men are charged with possession of marijuana, trafficking in marijuana, and preparation for the export of narcotics. They are also accused of trafficking in marijuana, conspiracy to export marijuana, and illegal entry into the country.

Their arrest follows an operation by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), which intercepted two vehicles around 9:00 p.m. on July 18, 2025, at the border between Sainte-Marie and Saint-André. One vehicle was reportedly occupied by the Haitian nationals and another man, while the second was carrying three other suspects. Police stated that a total of more than 350 packages of marijuana were found in the intercepted vehicles.

Earlier this week, Heron Brown (50), a farmer from the Burton district of Saint Elizabeth; Wade Richards (30), a vendor from Thompson Pen in Saint Catherine; and Delroy Wilson (28), from Margarets Bay, Portland, were charged in the same case. They are each accused of possession, trafficking, and preparation for export of marijuana.
