Haiti - FLASH : The Kenyan mission fully engaged on the ground

Thursday, August 7, 2025 Jack Ombaka, Spokesperson for the Kenyan-led Multinational Mission, recalled during a press briefing that "in close coordination with the Haitian National Police (PNH), remains fully committed to restoring peace, order, and stability across Haiti. Joint security operations and high-visibility patrols continue to be conducted in key high-risk zones, particularly in areas designated as red zones in both Port-auPrince and the Artibonite region.

ln anticipation of Thursday's scheduled CPT transition, armed gangs had plotted to disrupt national stability and render the country ungovernable. However, their efforts were decisively thwarted through coordinated, around-the-dock patrols and a strong security presence in Kenscoff, Furcy, Downtown Port-au-Prince, the vicinity of the National Palace, the Police Academy, the U.S. Embassy, as well as Petite Rivière, Liancourt, and Pont Sondé.

At approximately 02:00 hours this morning, MSS forces responded swiftly to distress calls from residents in the Kenscoff area reporting an imminent gang attack. During the operation, two MSS armored personnel carriers (APCs) became trapped in trenches deliberately dug by the gangs. Despite coming under attack with Molotov cocktails, MSS officers courageously held their ground, inflicting significant damage on the assailants, many of whom fled with serious injuries. Unfortunately, efforts to recover the APCs were unsuccessful, and both vehicles were set ablaze during the confrontation. Three MSS officers sustained minor injuries; they were treated at Aspen Level 2 Hospital and subsequently discharged.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Haitian population for their ongoing support and cooperation. MSS and PNH remain resolute in ensuring that criminal groups are denied any opportunity to destabilize the country or hinder progress toward sustainable governance.

Targeted operations will continue until all gang leaders are apprehended or voluntarily surrender to face justice."
