Haiti - FLASH: 369,779 illegal Haitians expelled in 1 year from the Dominican Republic

Earlier this week, the Directorate General of Immigration (DGM) revealed that between October 1st, 2024, and September 20, 2025, 369,779 Haitians in an irregular migration situation living illegally in the Dominican Republic had been returned to Haiti.

As of August 2025, more than 27,000 Haitians had been deported to Haiti. The French Embassy in Haiti, the National Office of Migration (ONM), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are on the ground providing vital assistance and helping the most vulnerable families rebuild their lives.

In a press release, the DGM announced that it would intensify its operations nationwide, given the prospect of a worsening situation in Haiti, to ensure compliance with Law 285-04 and the mandate of the Dominican Republic's Security and Defense Council, which declared immigration a national security issue.

"Faced with the deteriorating domestic situation in Haiti, surveillance and intelligence efforts have been strengthened to control the flow of migrants and illegal aliens entering the country.

The DGM, in collaboration with state security forces, has deployed intelligence, counterintelligence, internal affairs, and immigration interdiction teams, focusing primarily on access routes connecting border provinces to the country's main urban centers, via private vehicles, public transportation, motorcycles, and pedestrian routes.

The DGM justifies the intensification of operations as a measure aimed at ensuring security and peace in the Dominican Republic. It indicated that, according to official statistics, of the 8.1% cumulative crime rate, 1.33% (16.4%) correspond to incidents involving Haitian nationals.

Similarly, the DGM emphasized that the migration issue causes collateral damage, particularly to the hospital system, education, the environment, and the health and cleanliness of many communities.
