Haiti - Reconstruction : The Canadian Government dissatisfied of progress in reconstruction

John Baird, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, said he's "not at all satisfied with the progress in the reconstruction of Haiti." Nearly two years after the earthquake more than 50% are still there and political and social problems [over 600,000 Haitians are still living in tents] are still numerous in the country.

To the reconstruction, already slowed by the lack of land title which prevents the authorities to know who owns what, is added security problems, of education and health on a background of a political crisis that has blocked the implementation of the Government Martelly-Conille for more than four months "He came to power [the President Martelly] with enthusiasm, ready to tackle the problems, but he spent four months without a government" stressed the Canadian Chancellor.

A crisis that seems to settle with the lack of cooperation between the executive and legislative branches, the case Arnel Bélizaire and the publication of the constitutional amendment to uncertain outcomes.

Despite differences of opinion with the President of Haiti, about the reconstitution of the army, the Government of Canada that advocates instead a strengthening of the National Police, has confirmed its long-term commitment to lend him a hand, "We remain committed to working with the President Martelly and his government on the reconstruction [...] this is not an effort of one year, it's a ten-year effort," declared the Chancellor Baird in the Canadian Press.
