Haiti - Social: Support measures for displaced and vulnerable people during the holiday season (video)

On December 9, 2025, at the Prime Minister's Office, during the 30th edition of "Tuesdays of the Nation" Serge Gabriel Colin, Director General of the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), presented the main measures adopted by the Government to support people displaced by violence and vulnerable populations during the holiday season.

These actions, which will be implemented in Port-au-Prince, the Central Plateau, Artibonite, and Petit-Goâve, recently affected by Hurricane Melissa, include :

• Increased distribution of hot meals, food, and hygiene kits in camps for displaced persons;

• Increased meal distribution through community restaurants;

• Preparation of the traditional Independence Day soup;

• The provision of 20,000 cash transfers of 10,000 gourdes each to heads of households and vulnerable individuals.

For the occasion, the FAES, the technical arm of the Ministry of Social Affairs, is mobilizing its 105 community restaurants, which are fully engaged in preparing the Independence Soup, a symbol of solidarity, sharing, and national pride.

Serge Gabriel Colin specified that the Government has allocated several hundred million gourdes, a significant portion of which will be dedicated to cash transfers.

He also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to supporting displaced persons and vulnerable populations, while emphasizing the authorities' determination to continue efforts aimed at the lasting restoration of security throughout the country.
