Haiti - FLASH : The Haitian Coast Guard repels a major armed attack at sea

On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, a Coast Guard patrol boat, escorting a convoy of 13 merchant sailboats bound for La Gonâve Island, was attacked by five boats crewed by heavily armed individuals in the bay of Port-au-Prince (Gressier sector).

Faced with the scale of this attack, two reinforcement units, including a REMBO patrol boat, were immediately deployed, engaging in several hours of sustained firefights with the assailants.

The Coast Guard intervention resulted in positive operational outcomes : one of the terrorists' boats was destroyed, another was seized, and several assailants were killed.

Despite the tragic loss of a crew member aboard one of the sailboats, no Coast Guard officers were injured.

Thanks to this action, the maritime zone was fully secured, the escort of merchant ships was maintained, and commercial navigation was restored.
