Haiti - Cap-Haitien : Mystery and shock after the discovery of three lifeless bodies in a vehicle

On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the city of Cap-Haitien awoke in shock after the discovery of three lifeless bodies in a white Toyota Corolla parked at "Barrière Bouteille" on the southern entrance of the city. The victims, three members of the same family (a man, a woman, and a child), were identified as Ralph Gustave, Wilnica (or Wiltana) Gustave, and their 9-year-old son, Wildensky Rolph Gustave.

The vehicle had been parked near a police station since Sunday, January 4th. It was the foul odor emanating from the passenger compartment that alerted residents. According to Justice of the Peace Serge Fénélus, no signs of violence, bullet wounds, or stabbings were found on the bodies, leaving the cause of death a mystery.

This tragedy brings to five the number of bodies found in similar circumstances in the North since the end of 2025. On December 17, two other decomposing bodies were discovered in a vehicle in Charrier.

Despite the vehicle being in good working order, ruling out carbon monoxide poisoning, the recurrence of these suspicious deaths has caused shock and concern. A judicial investigation is underway to determine the causes of this mass death.
