Haiti - 50th CARICOM : PM returns from Saint Kitts and Nevis (Video summary)

On Thursday, February 26, 2026, upon returning to Haiti after attending the 50th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Prime Minister, during a press conference in the diplomatic lounge of Toussaint Louverture International Airport, reiterated his government's firm commitment to restoring state authority throughout the national territory and emphasized the need for concrete actions to put Haiti back on the path to stability, prosperity, and sustainable development.

Surrounded by members of the government, Secretaries of State, the Acting Commander-in-Chief of the Haitian National Police (PNH), and representatives of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H), Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé delivered a message of unity and determination, stressing that security remains the top priority to guarantee the organization of free, inclusive, and credible general elections.

During his official visit to Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Prime Minister held numerous bilateral meetings in Basse-Terre, notably with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46937-haiti-politic-pm-alix-didier-fils-aime-met-with-secretary-of-state-marco-rubio.html); Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness (https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-46938-icihaiti-politic-pm-calls-for-increased-support-for-the-defense-forces.html); CARICOM Secretary-General Carla Barnett; and CARICOM Distinguished Person Kenny Anthony.

Discussions focused on strengthening regional cooperation, stabilizing Haiti, and implementing concrete initiatives to promote security and economic recovery.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the signing of the National Pact for Stability and the Organization of Elections by more than 200 political parties, socio-economic organizations, and civil society actors was welcomed by regional and international partners. This initiative is seen as a strong signal of the Haitian stakeholders' commitment to prioritizing dialogue and national solutions to the crisis.

On the sidelines of the discussions, constructive exchanges took place with representatives of the United Arab Emirates regarding the development of strategic partnerships in the areas of security, foreign investment, and financial oversight, with the aim of strengthening Haiti's regional standing.

Discussions are also underway with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness regarding the upcoming reopening of the Haitian Embassy in Kingston and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the fight against illicit trafficking and organized crime, particularly concerning an increased presence in the Bay of Port-au-Prince.

In addition, the Prime Minister met with representatives from Austria to discuss the provision of scholarships for Haitian university students.

He also announced a contribution of over two million dollars from Finland to support the humanitarian crisis response in Haiti.
