Haiti - Politic : Haiti and El Salvador strengthen their cooperation

During his official visit to Chile, on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of Chile's newly elected President José Antonio Kast, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé held a high-level bilateral meeting with Félix Ulloa, Vice President of the Republic of El Salvador.

During this meeting, the Haitian government expressed its profound gratitude to the Republic of El Salvador and its partner countries for their solidarity and military and humanitarian support, particularly in assistance operations conducted for the benefit of the Haitian people.

Discussions also focused on sharing Salvadoran experiences in combating insecurity and managing the prison system, areas in which El Salvador has developed significant operational approaches to addressing the phenomenon of gangs.

The two men discussed the implementation of a comprehensive stabilization strategy in Haiti, structured around four key pillars : security, justice, reintegration, and disarmament programs (demobilization and reintegration), with the aim of consolidating progress in the fight against armed groups.

In this context, Haitian authorities discussed preparations for the upcoming arrival of an international force under a United Nations mandate, operating within the framework of Chapter VII of the UN Security Council. This force, comprised of approximately 5,500 troops primarily from Benin, Chad, and Mongolia, will be tasked with supporting operations against armed groups and contributing to the long-term security of strategic areas.

This bilateral meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Haiti and El Salvador to strengthening their strategic cooperation, in a spirit of regional solidarity and shared responsibility in the face of current security challenges.

The Prime Minister reiterated the Haitian government's determination to fully restore security, the rule of law, and institutional stability, essential conditions for national recovery and sustainable development in Haiti.
