Haiti - Cap-Haitien : The City Hall continues to take measures to support the affected merchants of the Cluny market

As part of the actions undertaken by the Cap-Haitien Municipal Administration since the fire that devastated the Cluny Market (Rue 9 Market) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46714-haiti-flash-major-fire-at-the-cluny-market-in-cap-haitien.html, several interventions have already been initiated and continue to be implemented to provide lasting solutions to this situation.

From the immediate aftermath of the fire, the City Hall launched and continued cleanup and clearing operations within the market area and its surrounding perimeter, while efforts are ongoing to facilitate the issuance of loss certificates to the victims.

Continuing this ongoing effort, on Thursday, March 19, 2026, the Administration organized two working meetings with representatives of the merchants' committee to improve coordination between the authorities and the merchants regarding priorities and solutions.

On the economic and social front, the City Hall continues to work to facilitate access to credit and other forms of financial support to help vendors restart their businesses. Simultaneously, discussions are ongoing with the central government to establish a rapid support mechanism to address the needs of vendors affected by the fire.

Regarding the organization and security of the market space, the administration is continuing its work and defining regulations for market use, as well as strengthening security measures to prevent further incidents.

In addition, technical assessment visits to the site continue to be conducted by the City Hall's technical services, accompanied by relevant partners. This work will allow for a better assessment of the extent of the damage and will enable progress, in collaboration with the central government, on the process of resolving the issue, relocating vendors, and providing them with assistance.

These actions are part of a vision to build a better organized, safer, and more modern market.
