URGENT : Flood threat on 5 departments of Haiti

The Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) announces this Wednesday, April 22, 2026, that a cold front stationed over the northern region of the country, combined with other weather conditions, will continue to bring rain and thunderstorms to the departments of North, Northwest, Artibonite, South, Southeast, Nippes, Grand'Anse, and West, late in the day and into the evening.

Haiti's Hydrometeorological Unit forecasts that the soil in many areas of these departments is reaching saturation. This could lead to flash flooding in several localities in the North, Northwest, South, Nippes, and Grand'Anse departments.

The National System for Risk and Disaster Management (SNGRD), in conjunction with the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC), is urging residents in flood-prone areas to take extreme precautions and follow the instructions of the authorities :

- Store your belongings and important documents in a safe place, away from water;

- Avoid long journeys to mountainous areas or near rivers far from home, especially if the return trip takes a long time (such as half a day);

- Do not cross swollen waterways, whether on foot, by motorcycle, on horseback, or by car.
