Did you know that Mary Jackson was the first Black woman to join NASA ? Mary Jackson marked the history of aerospace with her perseverance in the face of institutional racism in the United States.

After starting as a "human calculator" in the segregated Langley unit, she had to obtain special permission from the courts to take evening classes in a whites-only high school in order to become an engineer.

In 1958, she became NASA's first black female engineer. A specialist in fluid dynamics and wind tunnels, she analyzed flight data to improve the aerodynamics of American space capsules.

Beyond her technical prowess, at the end of her career she dedicated herself to promoting the hiring and promotion of women and minorities within the agency. His journey, highlighted by the book and the film “Les Figures de l'ombre”, illustrates the double fight against sexist and racial prejudices to access global scientific excellence.
