2026 World Cup : The Scottish national team, a difficult opponent but... 13/06/2026 08:55:34
In a few hours, our Grenadiers (ranked 83rd in the world) are preparing to end a nearly 52-year absence from the World Cup, facing the Scottish national team, Tartan Team (ranked 40th in the world), at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, near Boston, Massachusetts, at 9:00 p.m. (US/Haiti time). This will be the first-ever meeting between Haiti and Scotland, and also Haiti's first match against a team from the British Isles. Should be noted that Scotland is also making its return to the World Cup after a 28-year absence, its last participation dating back to 1998. The Scottish team, coached by Steve Clarke, will be a very strong opponent, both technically and physically, for our Grenadiers. Scotland is on the rise in Europe, thanks in large part to players like Scott McTominay, who scored two goals and provided one assist during World Cup qualifying. McTominay was involved in more goals than any other Scottish player during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with two goals and one assist. He was also one of three players, along with John McGinn and Andy Robertson, to feature in all six of Scotland's qualifying matches. In terms of World Cup record, Scotland has played 23 matches, with 4 wins, 7 draws, and 12 losses, scoring 25 goals and conceding 41. Scotland's World Cup campaign remains marked by disappointment. Having already participated eight times (1954, 1958, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1986, 1990, 1998), the British national team has never managed to advance beyond the first round. Including the UEFA European Championship, Scotland has been eliminated in the first round in all twelve of its appearances in major international tournaments. Haitian fans will be watching players like Frantzdy Pierrot and Duckens Nazon closely, as the Grenadiers will be aiming for at least one goal or a draw in the World Cup. Online predictions this Saturday morning give Haiti a 20% chance of winning, a 22% chance of a draw, and a 67% chance of a victory for Scotland, the favorites. But nothing is impossible in Haiti; a surprise is not out of the question... Haitian attaker Duckens Nazon finished as joint top scorer in CONCACAF's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with six goals. He notably scored a hat trick after coming on as a substitute against Costa Rica. Nazon also led the league in shots (34) and touches in the opposing penalty area (59). BF/ HaitiLibre
