Haiti - Security : Statement of Martelly on the future national security force

Saturday, the day after his return from Ecuador, the President Martelly, on a visit to Saut d'Eau, spoke on the future security force in Haiti "[...] The army is not in the agenda as if it was tomorrow morning that we were going do it, ut you already know, this will going to take time [...] we need a doctrine, establishing a clear mission no matter how you want to call it [...] if we do not have that force is like we gave to the Minustah the right to stay there for 20 years, 25 years.

Many people are asking me for job in the country, why they are not the young Haitians who defend the country ? So I went to see if we could begin through a country like Ecuador, to form for example the General Staff. Form a General Staff, will take at least two years. The idea is not because I speak of the army today, that I must speak of the army all the time, the thing is that I must plan the departure of the MINUSTAH, it means replacing the MINUSTAH by a force of young Haitians who can do the work in its place [...]

An armed force to protect Haiti's economic interests, to defend the borders, coastline, airspace, a corps of engineers who can work at the reconstruction of the country the same way that the Ecuadorians do in Artibonite, a body of medicine ready to intervene to save lives, that's the idea [...]"
