Haiti - Education : 68 candidates with special needs undergo the official tests

68 candidates with special needs, mostly with motor disabilities, but also blind people have participated this year in Port-au-Prince, to the official tests both at the fundamental level that secondary level. They were divided into several rooms of the school St. Vincent, [Paul VI Street,] the only examination center reserved to candidates with disabilities.

They were 21 disabled to participate, to the tests of the 6th fundamental year while 17 others underwent examinations of the 9th fundamental year. The candidates for the baccalaureate, 1st part (13) and the second part (17), participated in state examinations, according to the schedule of the National Examinations Office of State (BUNEXE).

Gaëlle Tranquille, a student of the Rhaeto to the lycée of Pétion-Ville, considers that the tests went well and expressed confidence "Despite my disability, I try to give the best of myself to pass the test, because I have the same chance that the other candidates since we have the same tests. I am sure and certain that the university gates are already open to me."

For his part, Fritz Georges, Coordinator of the Commission of School Adaptation and of Social Support (CASAS), believes that the physically disabled are very good for teaching while the blind tend to head for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, and Economic Sciences and other related disciplines after completing their studies classic "I must tell you, that the disabled are more and more numerous to undergo the tests of official exams. Some of them even manage to defy the Haitian education system, known for its exponential number of failure, and to pass the entrance exam to university," stressing that the lack of facilities and equipment appropriate to their circumstances, has significantly reduced their chance of success compared to others.
