Haiti - Security : Serious incidents in Martissant

Serious events occurred Tuesday, July 31, in the neighborhood of Martissant (south of Port-au-Prince). On the morning of Tuesday, an armed gang posted in ambush, attacked a police patrol, seriously wounding two police officers. In the exchange of fire, that followed, between the police and these individuals, several people were injured.

Following this incident, police detachments are intervened in the neighborhood, to search for suspects. Neighborhood residents, accuse the agents of the Departmental Unit for Maintaining Order (UDMO) of having led a reprisal operation and a real manhunt and of having used excessive force against the population. Residents of neighborhoods of Takwèt and Ti Bwa report of police brutality, broken windshields, motorcycles burnt, at least one trade looted and 5 houses burnt...

However, on Wednesday evening, police had not yet officially reacted to the allegations of the population on the violent behavior of his men or on the extensive damage, whose these forces are allegedly responsible. An investigation is open to establish the truth of facts.

Armed individuals, would still be on the run and actively sought.
