Haiti - Agriculture : Japanese donation, of 6,000 tons of fertilizer to the Ministry of Agriculture

Tuesday, after recently delivered nearly 300,000 bags of rice to the Haitian Government as part of the fight against the high cost of living, Japan, through its new ambassador to Haiti, Mr. Kenji Kuratomi, donated to the Ministry of Agriculture, 6,000 metric tons of fertilizer for the cultivation of rice, corn, bananas and beans.

This donation estimated at 4.5 million U.S. dollars, is intended for sale. "Funds generated by the sale of these fertilizers will be used by the office of monetization to fund socio-economic projects such as infrastructure, the agriculture, education, etc... We hope that this support will meet the needs of the population in terms of basic food products," declared the AmbassadorKenji Kuratomi, to the Ministry of Agriculture during the handover ceremony of these inputs.

These 6,000 tons of fertilizers [more than 130,000 bags], will contribute to the achievement of some of the objectives of the Ministry of Agriculture, such as : the increase in productivity ; the supply in inputs of farms ; the development of economic sectors and the access to credit.
