Gilbert Bigio, President of the multinational consortium "GB Group" (Gilbert Bigio Group), which acquired in the summer of 2012, through its subsidiary "Gulfstream Petroleum", of activities of storage and distribution of petroleum products Chevron [more than 220 service stations operating under the Texaco label], in SaintMartin, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, on Monday proposed, the strengthening of trade relations between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, creating partnerships between businessmen of the two countries through joint investments, which will promote the socio-economic development in Haiti.

"Thanks to the involvement of the Dominican and Haitian business community, in the Joint Bilateral Commission (CMB), the creation of strategic alliances, will be multiplied the possibilities of job creation, the increase in the purchasing power of consumers and consequently a positive influence on GDP and quality of life," declared Gilbert Bigio.

Last Thursday, during a meeting with President Danilo Medina in Santo Domingo, the prominent businessman had suggested that the CMB, currently composed of Haitian and Dominican authorities, is enhanced by the participation of businessmen from both countries to seek the maximization of potential trade on the island. A proposal favorably received by the Dominican President, who promised to share this initiative during his upcoming visit to Haiti in February with the President Martelly in order to reach a consensus between the two nations.

"We appreciate the welcoming of President Medina to foreign investment and I applaud his strong interest to generate an increase in the level of employment and gross domestic product by promoting trade between the Dominican Republic and Haiti," declared Gilbert Bigio.
