Haiti - Economy : Launch of the first International Conference notarial

Wednesday, the Union of Notaries of all jurisdictions of Haiti (SNJH), in collaboration with the Centre for Facilitation of Investments (CFI) launched the first International Conference notarial in Haiti on the theme: "The Notary and its partners mobilized to promote investment", which opens its doors this Thursday, February 28, 2013 and ended on 2 March.

During a press conference at the Hotel Royal Oasis in Petion-Ville, Marie Alice Bélizaire, the President of SNJH, presented this activity as an opportunity to initiate a national debate on the need to resolve the land issue in favor of the promotion of investment in Haiti. "We wanted to put together the sectors directly affected by these difficulties in order to pose the problems and find possible solutions feasible. The notary is by definition guarantor of the peace of families and of the possession of the goods, have therefore expressly involved with their partners to propose a concerted vision of of perspectives of land and of the investment promotion."

In addition, Jean Pierre Mangonez, the Representative of Investment Facilitation Center (CFI) has put this initiative in the context of actions taken by the Haitian government to improve the score of Haiti in the ranking "Doing Business" of the World Bank. "The land issue is identified as a major obstacle to private investment in Haiti. The protection of private property being an essential condition for attracting investment, this conference notarial can only be beneficial for Haiti in terms of positive side effect on the investment," noting that reliable titles give better access to credit, indispensable tool in the financing of innovative projects, able to boost economic growth and create jobs.

Delegations from more than a dozen countries will be present including: Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Morocco, Port Rico and Colombia. During this Conference, 21 national and international stakeholders will share their experiences and inquire about the Haitian experiences in this field. These meetings aim to strengthen the structures of the notarial profession in Haiti and officially marks the entrance of Haiti on the international scene.
