Haiti - Politic : Massachusetts elected the first Senator of Haitian descent in the United States

Tuesday, May 28, 2013, Linda Dorcéna Forry, became the first Senator of Haitian descent in the United States. After having preceded in the first round, Nick Collins a close of the outgoing Senator John Hart, Linda Dorcéna Forry won the victory of the first District of Suffolk County in the State of Massachusetts with 82% of 9,618 votes against Republican Joseph Anthony Ureneck (61).

This seat includes the neighborhoods of South Boston, Mattapan, Dorchester and Hyde Park was represented during half a century by Italian politicians and especially the Irish living in South Boston. The Haitian community in Massachusetts, has largely mobilized during the campaign of Linda Dorcéna Forry, to contribute to her victory by giving her the Haitian vote.

Born in 1973 in Dorchester,of Haitian parents, immigrated to the United States in the 70s, Linda Dorcéna Forry, mother of four children, is married to Bill Forry, of Irish origin, whose family owns several newspapers in the Greater Boston area, including the "Haitian Reporter". After her studies at the Boston College (Bachelor in Business Administration in 1997), she spent her entire career in public administration. Currently she is preparing a Master of Public Administration at the Kennedy School of Government.
