Haiti - Education: The United States reiterates its commitment to accompany Haiti

Monday at the National Palace, President Michel Martelly met with U.S. Secretary of State for Education, Arne Duncan. The issue of the improvement of quality of education has been the focus of discussions, to which took part among others : Ms. Pamela White, U.S. Ambassador accredited to Haiti, John Groarke, Representative of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Vanneur Pierre, Minister of Education and Councillors of the Presidency.

During the press conference that followed the meeting, the Head of State thanked the U.S. government for its support to the Haitian people. While being aware of the many challenges faced by the country, President Martelly stressed, that faced a number of priorities, the best approach is to consider the objectives one by one, if we really want to get good results. He took the example of the Haitian education system, to say that the emphasis is currently put on the quality of teaching, without neglecting other aspects of education.

For his part, Representative of USAID reiterated the U.S. Government's commitment to accompany Haiti in the path of development. John Groarke, who presented the Secretary of State Arne Duncan, as one of Safe Advisers of President Obama

in policy of education, has guaranteed to the President Martelly, that he can rely on the expertise of Mr. Duncan to carry out its program of education for all.

For his part, U.S. Secretary of State for Education, congratulated the President Martelly for the efforts already made ​​to allow Haitian children to have access to free education. Mr. Duncan, saying he visited a school, expressed his pleasantly surprised to see on the faces of these students the desire to work for a promising future. He also expressed his readiness to accompany the Haitian authorities in this noble task of training young people.
