Haiti - Politic: Diplomatic appeal for dialogue, to Break the Deadlock

Thursday, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Haiti and the following members of the international community in Haiti, the special representatives and ambassadors of Brazil, Canada, the European Union, France, the Organization of American States, Spain, and United States of America, accredited in Haiti called upon Haitian political actors to continue the process of dialogue launched on 14 October 2013 among the Executive and Legislative branches in order to reach a consensus solution concerning priority political issues.

Such an accord would allow the continuous functioning of the institutions and the holding of free, fair and inclusive elections which are necessary conditions for the reinforcement of good governance and the creation of a conducive framework for socio-economic development benefitting the Haitian people.

These representatives of the international community in Haiti believe that it is in the interest of all of the nation’s stakeholders that a solution to the current impasse be achieved as soon as possible, and that this solution be mutually agreed upon by Haiti’s political actors as well as Haitian civil society.
