Haiti - Education : Poor functioning of the education system...

As part of a series of meetings on the ground in all departments of the country, begun since the school year, Vanneur Pierre, Minister of National Education, met with the Directors of lycées, inspectors and coordinators of the Northeast, in order to exchange views on issues related to the malfunction of the education system.

The Minister said he found a lack of responsibility, leadership and management in these key stakeholders in the education system, thereby undermining efforts to restructure.

It is this lack of responsibility that is causing the poor performance of high school students at bachelor, said the Minister, "It is not normal that thse students completing the sixth year of basic education, and those who complete their cycle of classical studies, do not read easily ! It is not normal that only 5 or 10% of students are able to pass the state exams. The system is sick, it must be treated together."

As the Minister intends to involve all stakeholders in the system, especially inspectors, coordinators, directors of school, but also local politicians and parents, in order to sensitize them and bring them to assume each for their part, their responsibility.

At this meeting, the grievances of stakeholders were forwarded to the Minister who was able to become aware of other problems (infrastructure, administrative and teaching). The Minister Vanneur Pierre promised to take steps to resolve them.
