Haiti - Culture : A great architect passed away

The Ministry of Culture has learned with grief and dismay the sad news of the death of the architect Gérard Fombrun (Born in Port-au-Prince January 21, 1927), occurred in the morning of Sunday, February 1, 2015.

The Ministry bows to the memory of the Guardian and heritage creator. Gérard Fombrun contributed significantly to the promotion and protection of Haitian cultural heritage through his commitment as founder of the Museum Ogier-Fombrun, as member of the Board of the Museum of Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH) and of the National Institute of Culture and Arts (INAHCA), institution that in 1983, had the task of head, among other, the cultural institutions of Haiti.

In fifty-year career, he has made many achievements including: the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, the Resort Moulin sur Mer, the Wharf of Port-au-Prince,

several buildings and the Imperial Cinema. He was also known for its gingerbread houses.

While bowing respectfully to the remains of this great architect, the Ministry of Culture presents its sincere condolences to his wife Nicole, his children, especially his daughter Mireille who took over the leadership of Ogier-Fombrun museum, his sister Odette Roy Fombrun, his close relatives, friends and allies bereaved.
