Haiti - Health : The USA are concerned about the impact of Zika in Haiti

Friday a senior US health official, Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) expressed her "extreme concern" about the potential of Zika virus to spread throughout Haiti and stated that the United States is helping Haiti to prepare.

She said that with the approach of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, an increased number of mosquitoes is expected and Haiti, that confirmed its first cases of Zika in January, must prepare https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-16628-icihaiti-health-a-plan-of-900-000-dollars-to-fight-against-the-zika-virus.html "CDC has a very strong partnership in Haiti and we are already working on how to help them be ready for this."

"We are concerned about many countries. Certainly in Colombia they have seen a rapid increase in Zika cases [...] In the US we are working very closely with Puerto Rico and we are very concerned about the months ahead."

Let us recall that most people who are affected by the fever of Zika do not suffer severe symptoms, but pregnant women are considered at risk and have been informed by many governments not to travel to countries where the virus Zika is present.
