Haiti - Security : Floods in West, Centre and Nippes

During the evening of 30 April and 1 May 2016, heavy rains fell on the communes of Pétion-ville, Kenskoff, Tabarre, Ganthier and surrounding areas. Overflows of dry gullies, added to saturated soils, caused flooding in various neighborhoods within those communities. Should be noted that Pèlerin 9 and Laboule, in Pétion-ville, ere particularly affected.

Rainfall over Nippes during the last days of April have flooded the Downtown of Baradères, already very exposed. The overflow of the river and gullies passing through this commune, devastated plantations near the banks.

Also in the commune of Lascahobas, at the 1st section of "Petit Fond", a woman was swept away by the Artibonite River while trying to cross the water already flooding. Research continues to find the body.

Similarly, in the border commune of Savanette in the Centre department, a young man, Joisimon Cadet, was swept away by the waters of the river Fer à Cheval in flood in Saturday evening. The body was found Sunday in the area of "Dlo Gaye" by agents of Civil Protection and members of the bereaved family.

In a note Ministry of Interior, while presenting its sympathies to the families of victims, reminds residents "it is dangerous and not advisable to travel on foot, motorcycle, on animal and even by car when waters overflowing the roads, to avoid the risks of regrettable accidents. It is also forbidden to cross rivers during floods."
