Haiti - FLASH : Arson in the facilities of AGRITRANS S.A.

Monday early evening, the AGRITRANS S.A. firm of businessman and presidential candidate Jovenel Moïse, located in Trou-du-Nord (North East), was victim of arson.

Firefighters of the Caracol Industrial Park have intervened to master the disaster, alongside the employees who were fighting to prevent the fire spreading to other facilities. The balance and the extent of damage has not been disclosed by the company management. An investigation has been opened.

The Haitian Tèt Kale Party platform (PHTK) strongly condemns the arson attack against the AGRITRANS installations by unidentified individuals and urges law enforcement authorities to shed light on this criminal act.

The PHTK platform reaffirms its commitment to continue the electoral battle while demanding authorities the adoption of drastic measures to protect all actors involved in the process.

Recall that the Agritrans farm (on 1,000 hectares) is the first agricultural free zone in Haiti dedicated to the production of organic bananas for export. It includes more than 3,000 farmers associations. To achieve its objectives, the FEPA / Agritrans consortium has modern agricultural equipment, pumps for irrigation, an artificial lake with a capacity 700,000 gallons. The Haitian Government, through the Industrial Development Fund (IDF), has put 6 million US dollars available to the promoter, whose the total cost of the project is 27 million.
