Haiti - Social : Human Trafficking, the CNLTP sounds the alarm

The National Committee for the Fight Against Human Trafficking (CNLTP) warns the Haitian population in general and victims of Hurricane Matthew especially against mafia networks of human traffickers, who want to enjoy their dismay to abuse their confidence, exploiting young people, women and children.

The Committee strongly advises parents decapitalised by the hurricane, to consider other alternatives instead of giving their children to be placed in domestic service3...

The National Committee took the opportunity to urge the institutions responsible for the protection of children, to show the utmost vigilance. It asks the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (IBESR) to strengthen control of orphanages and adoption procedures.

It invites the Minors Protection Brigade to strengthen its teams in border areas with the Dominican Republic and wish the cooperation of all local officials, the judiciary, the actors of civil society and the UN system in order to avoid an increase in cases of human trafficking in the context of humanitarian crisis in Haiti after the passage of Matthew.

The fight against human trafficking requires the participation of all, that is why the Committee puts the phone number +509 33 33 13 00 available to every citizen, witness or victim of this scourge.

The CNLTP, reiterates its commitment to eradicate modern slavery rampant in Haiti.
