Haiti - Diaspora : Toussaint Louverture settles in Montreal

Wednesday at Park Toussaint Louverture, Ambassador of Haiti to Canada, Frantz Liautaud and the acting Head of Post of the Consulate of Haiti in Montreal, Mrs. Laury Lamothe in the presence of the Mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, members of the Haitian community and the Montreal public, participated in the unveiling of the bust of Toussaint Louverture, sculpted by the great artist of Haitian origin, Dominique Dennery and offered to the city of Montreal by the Haitian Community, on the occasion of the 375 years of the city of Montreal.

This ceremony aimed to honor the memory of the forerunner of Haiti's Independence and to highlight the presence of the important Haitian community in Montreal for decades.

Laury Lamothe took this opportunity to thank the organizing Committee and the Mayor of Montreal who took an active part in this event.

In his speech, Ambassador Liautaud declared "This is a second time in Quebec that the Haitian diaspora mark, in the bronze, its imprint in this noble and welcoming land of welcome. First, Jean Jacques Dessalines le Grand in Gatineau two years ago, a root of the trunk of Liberty, also sculpted by Dominique Dennery, and today, it is the trunk itself that plant itself, as to interpellate us [...]"
