Haiti - IRMA : Port-au-Prince Town Hall mobilizes its resources

Wednesday, Mayor of the Capital, Ralph Youri Chevry, less than 24 hours before the passage of hurricane IRMA, reported a set of measures that the Municipal Administration had adopted to deal with the damage that could generate the Category 5 Hurricane IRMA https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22033-haiti-flash-irma-415-km-from-cap-haitien-flights-canceled.html

Mayor Chevry, who acknowledged the limited means of his administration, said that arrangements had nevertheless been made to provide temporary shelters to accommodate displaced persons with respect and dignity.

He welcomed local companies, including SECOSA, which makes heavy equipment available to the Municipal Administration and called on other institutions to follow suit. "There are many needs and our door remains open" inviting the population and especially the people living in the areas at risk, to follow the instructions of the competent authorities scrupulously.

For his part, Jules Riclès of the Communal Committee for the Civil Protection of Port-au-Prince asked the populations who live in the areas along the coast, to leave before it is too late. He also said that the volunteers of the Municipal Civil Protection Committee of Port-au-Prince will be mobilized during and after the passage of IRMA in order to provide assistance to the possible victims.

Guerlin Charles, the head of the urbanization department, announced the continuation of the works of clearing of the various gullies of the capital in order to limit the risk of flooding. Noting that this work includes the Ravine Pintade, the Bois de Chêne and the ravine Nicolas.

A special line, the "2210-1010" was set up by the Municipal Administration of Port-au-Prince for the benefit of the inhabitants wanting to have the assistance of the Town Hall during the passage of IRMA.
