Haiti - FLASH : TPS, reaction of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of the United States

Following the decision of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to terminate the designation of Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22759-haiti-flash-tps-more-than-50-000-haitians-will-have-to-leave-the-usa.html giving the beneficiaries until 22 July 2019, to leave the country, Ashley Feasley, the Director of the Migration Policy and Public Affairs at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops declared :

"We’re extremely concerned about what’s going to happen to these individuals and their families," stating that among the beneficiaries of the TPS there are 27,000 children American citizens. Many TPS beneficiaries are employed, have mortgages and participate in the community "They have worked to comply with the existing regulations, and they have been vetted by the DHS [...] the Congress can and should act on this issue," pointing out that American bishops urge lawmakers to adopt measures addressed to TPS recipients who have been in the country for years. Recalling that the TPS was first granted to Haitians in 2010, some have been in the country for more than 10 years...
