Haiti - Politic : President Moïse salutes the memory of the victims of the massacre of the Vaillant alley

Wednesday at the National School Argentine Bellegarde, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Jack Guy Lafontant, laid a wreath of flowers at the memorial dedicated to those killed at Vaillant alley and in several parts of the territory on November 29, 1987.

Were also present at the ceremony among others the Sen. Youri Latortue, President of the National Assembly, Me Jules Cantave, the President of the Court of Cassation, parliamentarians, members of the government and organizations of civil society.

The Head of State took the opportunity to invite all Haitians to celebrate the courage of these martyrs of democracy and their commitment to the search for a pluralistic and egalitarian country "30 years later, the fight is still alive with the only difference that now there is a President and a government who share and want to realize their aspirations. This unfortunate event here has enabled millions of Haitians to demand and obtain their right to vote. This right must not be violated, it must be strengthened," said Moïse.

The Head of State believes that November 29, 1987 set the stage and gave the people their right to vote despite the difficulties faced by the electoral processes in Haiti. He claimed to be one of the beneficiaries of the Haitian people's struggle for democracy, not only as a voter, but especially as elected "30 years later, we are still at a Provisional Electoral Council. This can not go on. Today, taking witness to the memory of those who have fallen here, I pledge to set up the first Permanent Electoral Council, according to the prescriptions of the Constitution which makes me the guarantor of the existence and the good works of the institutions of the Republic," adding that unlike the submissive and politicized army that perpetrated this massacre "the new Armed Forces of Haiti that have just been restored will be an instrument of development and protection of the Haitian nation."
