Haiti - FLASH : Risk of heavy rains in at least 7 departments

The Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) calls on the population, especially residents of areas at high risk of flooding and landslides... to be ready because of heavy rains expected in at least 7 departments, according to the forecasts of the Hydro Meteorological Unit of Haiti (UHM).

The displacement of a frontal system on Cuba and the presence of a low-pressure center in the Caribbean Sea are currently influencing the weather in the Greater Antilles, the UHM informed. This situation generates relatively wet weather in the area and could cause significant cloud with isolated, low to moderate rainfall on the country until the end of this week.

This Thursday, rains could increase gradually, especially in the departments of Grand'Anse, Nippes, North, North-East, North-West, West and South, approaching the frontal system.

As a result, the DPC calls for caution to residents of areas at high risk of flooding, landslides... especially near gullies, watercourses or other flood zones. It invites them to prepare or check their emergency kit for any eventuality, but also to place their important papers and affairs above the level that the water could reach or if possible upstairs.
