Haiti - FLASH : In 2017, more than 110,000 Haitians expelled or turned back from DR

The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) has unveiled the number of Haitians repatriated or not admitted to Dominican territory because of an irregular migratory situation in the Dominican Republic or do not comply with the provisions of Law 285-04, for the period from January 1st to December 31st.

The report indicates that during this period, several hundred migration control operations were carried out throughout the national territory, where foreigners were arrested, including 57,996 were expelled including: in La Romana, San Francisco de Macoris, Puerto Plata, Boca Chica, San José de Ocoa, Las Terrenas, La Vega, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Santiago Rodriguez, Espaillat, La Altagracia and Grand Santo Domingo etc...

In addition to the evictions, the report reveals that an additional 52,034 Haitians in an irregular migration situation who tried to enter the Dominican territory were turned back at the borders.

In addition to Haiti, which accounts for at least 99% of those expelled, the report mentions that various nationals of 32 other nationalities were also repatriated to their country in collaboration with their respective embassies (Albania, Germany, Argentina, Armenia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, United States, France, Greece, Guyana, India, Holland, Iran, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, South Africa, Serbia, Taiwan Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela).
