Haiti - FLASH : Violence unleashes in Petit-Goâve, many damages

Monday, 3rd week of protest in Petit-Goâve, high school students still claim the return to class, deprived of course because of a strike of teachers who demand their appointment and payment of their salary arrears.

Around 10:00 am "students" of Faustin Soulouque high school of Petit-Goâve animated by extreme anger, broke into the premises of the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of First Instance (TPI), breaking the windows, air conditioners, damaging the doors, burning the flag before entering the premises they vandalized in a rampage of violence, knocking down offices, chairs, threw out documents, sowing terror among lawyers and judges who panicked, running to safety, calling the police in vain.

The youths were organized into two groups, the first inside breaking everything in its path while the other group outside throwing stones. On the public road "high school students" burned documents from the Public Prosecutor's Office.

According to employee testimonies, if these young people had been able to break into the Registry of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the TPI they would have set fire to all the rooms "Since the post-86 period, it's unheard of," said one employee of parquet.

Agents of the Departmental Unit of Maintenance of Order (UDMO) finally intervened to ensure the safety of the premises of the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of First Instance...

Recall that March 1 "high school students" had already stormed the prosecution and caused many damages https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23731-haiti-petit-goave-reactions-of-the-bar-association-on-vandalism-and-robbery-at-tpi.html . It seems that the local authorities have retained no lessons of previous acts of vandalism and that measures to protect public property are all absent or ineffective, just like those to put an end to this student violence.
